CHAPTER 15: Words That Cut

Arohi woke slowly the next morning, stretching languidly like a cat waking from a long nap, sunlight spilling warm across the sheets. The smell of ghee and roasted spices drifted faintly through the house, curling into the bedroom and pulling her fully awake before she was ready to be.

She padded downstairs still half-asleep, following the scent, and stopped dead in the kitchen doorway.
